Clam Bistro: Being An Australian Teenager In The 1990s

clambistro:

I’ve been listening to Crowded House’s greatest hits and fondly remembering how many earnest teenage tears I shed to Not The Girl You Think You Are, which in turn made me remember hosing myself down with Australis Waterberry body-spray at Mallacoota on New Year’s Eve.

Continuing in that…

Well, pretty much everything Clem said (I totally dyed my hair black for BDO), plus:

  • Playing hacky-sack with the cool, older punk kids at Freezer gigs
  • Waiting in line to see Bodyjar, 28 Days or Mach Pelican play at The Corner pretty much every weekend
  • “Skanking” at said gigs
  • Bananas In Pyjamas teeshirts
  • Brown velvet pants
  • Corduroy EVERYTHING
  • Satchels suddenly being SOFUCKINGCOOL
  • Wearing those colourful ball necklaces like a Cali-punk
  • Dicky belts
  • Watching my friends on Recovery WHO GOT AN EVERCLEAR PLECTRUM
  • Rainbow striped socks with cargo shorts…???
  • Getting punched in the face in the mosh pit and feeling like a hard cunt
  • Wanting to be Daniel Johns
  • Being mistaken for Daniel Johns all day, err day.
